At the Domplein (Cathedral square) in the historical heart of the medieval city of Utrecht something extraordinary came into existence in June 2014: DOMunder. Tinker imagineers has designed the underground archaeological visitor experience, in cooperation with JDdV Architecten. Visitors use an interactive flashlight while descending in the dark in search of archaeological remains which, together with the multimedia experience, tell the stories of the 2000 years of history at the Domplein. The combination of high-tech solutions for climatisation, conservation and experience techniques with low-tech archaeology makes DOMunder an innovative and inspiring project within the European context.

Technical documents collected by libraries, museums and archives sometimes describe very interesting machines or mechanisms. Via interactive animations those objects may be set into motion again. This gives people the chance for a better understanding how things work. The described project uses videos, images and interactive 3D-models to make the patent texts and drawings better understandable. Especially the interactive animations support a deeper insight into the inventors ideas by rotating, zooming and switching transparency using the mouse or a touch display.
