How did man influence the landscape? And how did the landscape influence man? These two questions are the point of departure for a poetical and wordless film that starts off with the hunter-gatherer of 5000 years ago, who did not leave any lasting traces in the landscape. Via the barrows from the mid-Iron Age, the mediaeval settlements, the flock of sheep from the early modern period, and the cultivation after the invention of artificial fertilizer around 1900, the film touches upon post-war scaling-up and mechanization. The film ends in the present with a large, animated view of the Floriade.
