New Multimedia Award for Cultural Heritage
Plácido Domingo, president of Europa Nostra, promotes the importance of inspiring and encouraging especially young Europeans to take an interest in culture and cultural heritage.
The winners of the Heritage in Motion Awards will be announced at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow Friday 25 April 2014. The first Heritage in Motion Awards will be presented at the annual conference of the European Museum Academy, this year in Glasgow with the co-operation of Glasgow Museums and Glasgow Life. Plácido Domingo, president of Europa Nostra, promotes the importance of inspiring and encouraging especially young Europeans to take an interest in culture and cultural heritage.
As one of the founding partners of the new Heritage in Motion Awards, Europa Nostra highlights the essence of this new award. Mr. Domingo explains: “Young Europeans should become aware and proud of their heritage while at the same time learning to respect and enjoy the culture and heritage of others.” Heritage in Motion is the new competition for the creators and users of multimedia related to Europe’s heritage.
Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra, continues: “Cultural heritage is something that belongs to all of us. It is something that we can share, we can talk about and discuss, enjoy alone or together with others. Therefore innovation in the field of digital technologies and (social) media are very important in the field of cultural heritage, not just to raise awareness about heritage in danger, but also to have access to monuments and sites in a different way, through a documentary or a museum exhibition, through a form of augmented reality, an interactive website or an attractive app for mobile devices.”
About Heritage in Motion: Cultural heritage is of essential importance for the future of Europe. Yet, the true potential of many European monuments, sites and heritage products and traditions is still undervalued. Modern media technology can play a vital role in making cultural heritage accessible to a large young as well as older public. The Heritage in Motion Awards are a joint initiative of Europa Nostra and the European Museum Academy. These two founding partners felt the need to gather the best multimedia products and achievements at a European event, focusing specifically on themes related to the safeguarding and promotion of Europe’s heritage.
